Dragoons Celebrate the Life of Trooper Larry Rudd
The 9th of June 2010 represented a sombre day for the Royal Canadian Dragoons as the Regiment gathered to remember the life of Trooper Larry John Rudd.

A unit memorial was held for Tpr Rudd at the St. Francis of Assisi Chapel at CFB Petawawa last Wednesday.  The memorial service was a celebration of the life and memory of Tpr Rudd of A Squadron, the Royal Canadian Dragoons.  Tpr Rudd was killed by an Improvised Explosive Device strike in the Panjway district of Afghanistan on 24 May 2010.

Tpr Rudd was remembered as the “gentle giant” of the Dragoons, a man who, despite his intimidating size, was one of the kindest and most outgoing members of his Squadron.  He was known as a dynamic and highly motivated soldier who was well beyond his rank and experience.  A generous and outgoing individual, he was a person with whom other soldiers of all ranks sought friendship.  Tpr Rudd was a “go-to” soldier who always put the needs of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers before his own.  Speaking of his friend at the service, Tpr Greg Shubert highlighted Tpr Rudd’s dedication to his Mother, and to the Regiment.  Tpr Rudd will be remembered by his Mother Helen Zuidema, his maternal grandmother Toni Zuidema, and all of his extended family at the Royal Canadian Dragoons.

Tpr Rudd was the twelfth Dragoon to lose his life during the Afghanistan Mission, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Tpr Shubert is consoled by Chaplin - Major Hardwick.
A tribute to Tpr Larry Rudd and his service with the RCD.
