Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Leeuwarden

The Regiment, Town of Petawawa and Regimental Family were very pleased to host a number of Dutch dignitaries and friends from the Embassy in Ottawa and the mayor of Leeuwarden to celebrate the 80th Anniversay of the Liberation of Leewarden on 15 April 1945. It was an outstanding event that was mirrored in The Netherlands – as we do every year! Thanks to the Mayor and Council of Petawawa for hosting the ceremony at the Civic Centre, it brought a new and wider meaning to the event, highlighted by having some 200 students and teachers in attendance to share the experiencee of Leeuwarden with us.

This year, a contingent of Dragoons will be going to The Netherlands to celebrate their national liberation day on 5 May as well as conducting a tour of all the key Dragoon events. As always The Dutch hosts are pulling out all the stops to keep our friendship strong moving into the future. This event will be covered under a separate post so come back soon!
