It is with profound sadness that the Regimental Family announces the passing of Trooper Don White, a Second World War vet, on the morning of 17 June 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Don started his long relationship with the military at age 16 and volunteered for overseas service at 18. He joined the Regiment in Italy in the fall of 1944, serving continuously in C Sqn through the Italian and NW Europe Campaigns. Don is so very respected by the Dutch and will always be remembered as being in the lead staghound when our Regiment liberated Leeuwarden. He returned home in Jan 1946 aboard the QE1 with the last RCD contingent.
After the war, Don remained an active member and representative of the military, supported by his wonderful family. As many know, Don was a proud Dragoon who actively supported the Dragoon family through the decades. Eventually, he became the face of the RCD and veterans in general, particularly at Regimental celebrations both in Canada and as a national representative in Europe, particularly the Netherlands. Additionally, he remained a proud and active member of the community in Oshawa, and the Ontario Regiment Museum.
