Passing of David Sproule

The Regimental Family is saddened to announce the passing of  LCol (Retd) Dave Sproule in Victoria BC on the weekend of 27-28 Apr 2024.

In time, further details and perhaps an obituary with memorial details will be available.

Dave joined the Royal Canadian Dragoons at Camp Gagetown, NB in September 1960 and served in both “B” and “C” Squadrons before joining the Reece Squadron in the spring of 1961 as the Troop Leader of 1 Troop until the squadron returned to Canada in the spring of 1963 after a one-year tour of duty with the UNEF, Sinai Desert (February 1962 -1963). After serving various posts across Canada as a junior officer, he joined the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (RC) in 1972 as the Officer Commanding Headquarters Squadron and was later appointed as the OC of “B” Squadron. In 1974 he was posted to Northern Region Headquarters in Yellowknife as the Senior Staff Officer, Operations. He took his release from the Regular Force in 1977 but continued in the Supplementary Reserve. In 1986 he moved to Vancouver as the Safety and Training Manager for the BC Rapid Transit Company (aka SkyTrain). In 1987 he joined the British Columbia Regiment, his old militia unit, as the OC of the Reece Squadron before being promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and commanding the Regiment from 1988 – 1991. He continued to reside in Vancouver with his wife Jean and was a frequent contributor to the RCD, LdSH(RC) and BCR Associations’ newsletters.
