Exercise IRON WARRIOR is a physically and mentally demanding event, run annually at Garrison Petawawa by 2CMBG. It consists of a series of marches, portaging and canoeing along the Ottawa River. Over the past few years, the event has developed into an ultra-competitive endurance race that sees competitors from across the Brigade race for the podium during the multiple day event. Over time, the race has evolved from a one-day race for military members of the Brigade into a two-day event to include external units and DND civilian employees. Last year’s race also introduced the Day 1 Sprint Race of 21km and a Day 2 Marathon Race of 42km, where competitors were allowed to complete the event in running shoes or combat boots. The team is currently preparing for the season with the full support of The Regiment and The Guild, and while the event is likely to draw some fierce competition, we are looking to capture multiple podium finishes for both events.
This year, our training plan has been developed with PSP Petawawa to ensure a streamlined and balanced effort for all participants. The training will consist of a 21-week workup program that will include non-weighted running, full body strength training, ruck marching, portaging and paddling. During this program, RCD team members will be required to complete two milestone training events: a weighted forced march; and a portage/paddle. The purpose of these milestone events is to ensure the readiness of each individual participant and develop a competitive environment amongst our team. The effort and commitment of our participants will prepare them for the challenging and ultimately rewarding event that is the 2 CMBG Ex IRON WARRIOR.
Come back often as we will be posting progress updates leading to event day.
