On 15 April every year since 1945, the City of Leeuwarden, NL and The Royal Canadian Dragoons have celebrated the liberation of the City as the focal point of the Canadian liberation of Friesland province.
As the lead for the Canadian advance, the Regiment had the great honour of being some of the first troops to free the towns, villages and cities throughout the region.
